What you need for your line-art pottery
- Old planters, pots or vases
- Leftover paint
- Baking powder
- large paintbrush
- small paintbrush
Step-by-step: How to give your old planters, pots and vases a line-art makeover
For this tutorial you can use any old vases or planters made of clay or glas. You can also use any kind of paint, from wallpaint to acrylic paint. To get started, make sure you clean your old pottery throughly, so the paint will stick to it nicely. You can also pre-sand it a little bit, but you dont have to.
Choose your paint
Choose the color you want to use as the base and pour it into a bowl. Into another bowl, get your baking-powder ready.
Mix your paint with baking powder. In a ration of 3/4 paint and 1/4 baking-powder. Add more powder, if its still too runny.
Give it a nice blend. Its going to start doubeling in size and becoming nice and fluffy.
Use your large brush to paint your old planter or vase. Brush in all directions, to give it a “pottery” look
Let it dry
let it dry for at least an hour. You can speed up the process by carefully blowdrying it.
Give your painted planter a second coat of paint and let it dry again.
Once the paint is dry, use a pencil to draw on any line-art you like. There are many inspirations you can copy from online.
draw the lines
Take your small brush and use the opposite color to draw your lines.
You can do this in any colors. Use a black base and white lines, or sand base and black lines, or a terracotta base and bright lines. Anything you like! After everything has nicely dried out, you can place your new pottery in your home. Depending on its shape, you use it for your plants, dried flowers or even candles. Maybe have it be a statement piece on its own. Enjoy!
